John Hagan delivers Talarico Lecture on April 26th

John Hagan is the John D. MacArthur Professor of Sociology and Law at Northwestern University and Co-director of the Center on Law & Globalization at the American Bar Foundation in Chicago. He gave this year's Susette M. Talarico Lecture on April 26th in the Walker Room of the Dean Rusk Annex to the School of Law. He spoke on the topic  "Who Are the Criminals? Iraq and the Crimes of Preemptive War." His talk was well received with people from many disciplines attending. Hagan shared early findings from his research on sectarian violence in the context of civil destablization and the ensuing "surge."

The event is named in memory of Susette M. Talarico who was Albert Berry Saye Professor of American Government and Constitutional Law, Emerita and Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor in the School of Public and International Affairs. A charter member of UGA’s Teaching Academy, Susette was known for her innovative approach to teaching and mentoring, and for her contributions to curriculum development at the university—serving as the driving force in the creation of the interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program in Criminal Justice Studies of which she was Director for over twenty years.
